Alright, so I fell prey to yet another reality TV show, The Restaurant. I certainly didn't think I'd want to see this, as I had worked in a restaurant for 7 years. I pretty much know what it's all about. However, a few minutes into this lovely drama-filled look into the lives a renowned New York City chef and restaurant owner, his mother, and his staff, I was hooked.
The first episode, which aired last evening, starts off with the discovery that there is no location for the restaurant that has been talked up on the radio and The Today Show, where Chef Rocco himself announces a cattle call for cooks, bartenders, and wait servers. Ultimately, he hires a bunch of queens, a bouncer-looking general manager, and Penelope Cruz look-a-like among others.
They managed to pull it off in a mere 5 weeks, right down to the second before opening the doors. I am impressed. Quite a dish this is turning out to be.
And judging from the "scenes from next week's episode" the claws are out, honey, and the fur is gonna fly. Just don't get any on my plate or I'm sending it back.
